Brian Lara hopes Abhishek Sharma will score the first hundred of IPL 2024

In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Abhishek Sharma has been a standout performer for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Former coach Brian Lara hopes to see Abhishek score his first century. Abhishek’s exceptional performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and IPL has caught Lara’s eye.

Abhishek’s impressive record includes a Player of the Tournament award in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 485 runs at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 192.46, including two centuries and three fifties. In IPL 2024, he has continued to shine, making 161 runs in four innings at an average of 40.25 and a strike rate of 217.56, with 12 fours and 15 sixes.

Lara believes that Abhishek has the potential for greatness but needs to work on his mental strength to convert good starts into big scores. Lara expressed his hopes for Abhishek to score the first IPL hundred of the season and emphasized the importance of scoring big runs for recognition and remembrance in cricket.

Looking ahead to the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lara predicts that Mumbai Indians have the edge over RCB. He praises MI’s recent form and strategic gameplay, highlighting the need for RCB to trust their local talent more, like Mahipal Lomror, who was excluded from a recent match despite performing well.

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu also weighed in, suggesting that RCB should utilize Glenn Maxwell in a finishing role alongside Dinesh Karthik to help him find form. Rayudu emphasized the importance of balancing the batting lineup and including local talent in crucial moments for team success.
