Sinner defeats Korda, Tsitsipas beats Etcheverry in Monte-Carlo

In his first match on clay this season, Jannik Sinner defeated Sebastian Korda 6-1, 6-2 at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Sinner saved all three break points and won 95% of points behind his first serve to advance to the third round in just 76 minutes.

The 22-year-old Italian will next face Jan-Lennard Struff, who earned his 200th tour-level win by defeating Borna Coric. Sinner, chasing his second clay court title after his win in Umag in 2022, is looking strong after his semi-final appearance in Monte-Carlo last season.

Two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas also advanced to the third round with a dominant victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Tsitsipas, a clay court specialist, broke Etcheverry’s serve six times and will now face Alexander Zverev for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Daniil Medvedev reached the third round by defeating Gael Monfils. Medvedev, who won his maiden tour-level title on clay last year in Rome, is aiming for his first trophy of the season after a final run at the Australian Open.

Casper Ruud also progressed to the third round by defeating Alejandro Tabilo. Ruud, known for his success on clay, will now face 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz in the next round. In other matches, Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov’s matches were suspended due to rain.
