Daniel Radcliffe reveals his fear of Alan Rickman in first three ‘Harry Potter’ films

Los Angeles, April 12 (IANS) Actor Daniel Radcliffe revealed on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that he was “deathly afraid” of Alan Rickman’s character, Professor Severus Snape, who taught potions at Hogwarts. Radcliffe expressed feeling intimidated by Rickman’s voice and presence, particularly during the first three Harry Potter movies.

Reflecting on his initial fear of Rickman, Radcliffe shared, “How can you not be by that voice? Even hearing that voice, you forget quite how low it was until it echoes through you.” Despite his intimidation, Radcliffe believed that Rickman disliked him during the early movies.

After Rickman’s passing, Radcliffe watched an interview in which the late actor discussed his pride in Radcliffe’s success on Broadway during his time portraying Harry Potter. Rickman also acknowledged the pressure young actors like Radcliffe faced from a young age in the industry.

Radcliffe recalled, “He cut short a vacation in Canada to come and see me in Equus. He saw every piece of stage work I did when he was alive.” The actor also mentioned how Rickman would take him out after performances to discuss them, highlighting the mentorship and support he received from the seasoned actor.

Despite his initial fears, Radcliffe’s relationship with Rickman evolved over time, with the late actor showing immense support and pride in Radcliffe’s career. Rickman’s impact on Radcliffe’s growth as an actor and his memories of their time together continue to resonate with Radcliffe even after Rickman’s passing.

The bond between the two actors, while initially affected by fear and intimidation, blossomed into a mentorship and friendship that Radcliffe cherishes to this day. Radcliffe’s reflections on his experiences with Rickman shed light on the profound influence the late actor had on his career and personal growth in the industry.
