IIT Madras Launches India’s First Medical Devices Calibration Facility on Wheels

Chennai, April 15 (IANS) Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has inaugurated India’s first medical devices calibration facility on wheels. The mobile unit aims to ensure accurate calibration of medical instruments for precise disease diagnosis, leading to improved treatments and quality healthcare across the country.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, emphasized the importance of calibration for proper diagnosis and treatment, stating, “Proper diagnosis and treatment are extremely important and for that, the medical devices need to be calibrated accurately and frequently.”

The initiative aligns with the United National Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-3) of promoting health and well-being for all. The mobile unit is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to test the safety of medical devices according to international standards, reducing calibration costs and transportation times.

“We are taking a progressive step towards affordable, scalable, quality healthcare for all,” Prof. Kamakoti added. The mobile facility will cater to a wide range of hospitals, including those in remote areas, ensuring access to quality healthcare services for all.
