Indian Men Begin Title Defence vs Thailand in Thomas & Uber Cup, Women to Face Canada in Opener

The Indian men’s and women’s badminton teams are set to kickstart their campaigns in the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals in Chengdu, China, from April 27. The men’s team, led by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, will defend their title against Thailand, while the women’s team will face Canada in their opening match.

The Indian men’s team, including H.S. Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, and Kidambi Srikanth, will look to recreate their title triumph from the 2022 edition. The team automatically qualified for the 2024 Thomas Cup as defending champions after stunning Indonesia in the final last year. The squad will face England and Indonesia in the group stage matches on April 29 and May 1, respectively.

On the other hand, the Indian women’s team, led by Anmol Kharb, secured a spot in the Uber Cup after winning a gold medal in the Badminton Asia Team Championships earlier this year. The team will face Canada, Singapore, and China, the most successful team in the event’s history, in the group stage matches on April 27, April 28, and April 30, respectively.

After the group stage matches, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals on May 2 and 3. The finals of the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals will take place on May 5. Both Indian teams are looking forward to making their mark on the international stage and aim to put up a strong performance in the upcoming tournament.
