Boman reminisces about his ‘favorite failure’ and meeting Homi Adajania’s father
Actor Boman Irani revealed his favorite failure from his past during a conversation at the Cinevesture International Film Festival 2024 (CIFF). Irani shared how he aimed to be an official photographer at a Boxing World Cup but faced a setback initially.
Recalling his encounter with Aspy Adajania, Irani mentioned, “I used to love sports photography. I went to Aspy Adajania, president of the Indian Boxing Association, to pitch myself as the official photographer. However, Aspy’s response surprised me.”
Aspy pointed out Irani’s lack of boxing photographs in his portfolio and called him a “waferwala,” referencing Irani’s previous job of selling wafers. Irani was taken aback but learned valuable lessons from the experience, as Aspy eventually became a mentor and even hired him for the Boxing World Cup.
Irani emphasized the importance of learning from failures and staying humble during the process. He expressed gratitude towards Aspy for guiding him and providing opportunities for growth in his photography career.
The incident serves as a reminder for individuals to not be disheartened by setbacks but to embrace them as learning experiences. Irani’s story showcases how failures can lead to unexpected opportunities and mentorship, ultimately contributing to personal and professional growth.
