On this day, back on January 26, 1950, our country adopted the Constitution of India. Plus, India was free from the British Raj and gained its independence in 1947. Although it wasn’t until 26th January 1950, the Constitution of India came into full effect and India became a sovereign state. 

In 1946, on 9th December, our country held its first Constituent Assembly, and again on November 26, 1949. A year later, the Constitution was adopted. Dr. BR Ambedkar was behind the Drafting Committee of the Constitution. This day is also celebrated as Constitution Day. In 1930,  the Indian National Congress established a Purna Swaraj from British rule. The day is celebrated as a national holiday. 

The day is celebrated with full enthusiasm all around the country. The President of India flags the national flag along with the military and cultural performances. Padma Awards are distributed to deserving candidates. Brave soldiers were also awarded Ashok Chakra, Paramvir Chakra, and Vir Chakra. All the activities are telecast on TV and are viewed by almost every citizen of the country.
