For those who are still not aware of Lord Krishna let me tell a few details about him-

He was the 8th son born to Princess Devaki and her husband Vasudeva in Mathura city. However, he was raised in Gokul by Yashoda and Nanda. It was believed that the reason behind his birth was to free the people of the harsh atrocities of his uncle Kansa and the king. Later it was found that he played a significant role in the Mahabharat war as well as guiding Arjun too.

Significance of Janmashtami

In India, the festival is celebrated with a great enthusiasm with Jhakis in every society. Devotees dress Krishna in yellow clothes with peacock feather crowns. Even his toddler form is decorated and placed in his Jhula. Temples in Mathura and other parts of India are decorated tremendously. Plus Dahi handi is a vital part of the celebration.
