In Pics: How would Joaquin Phoenix look if he played Doctor Strange?

Doctor Strange is considered the most interesting and mysterious character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You might agree that the powers of Doctor Strange are much more powerful than any other hero. All thanks to the versatile actor Benedict Cumberbatch was played the role marvelously. 

Again nothing is confirmed yet just a fan theory that Joaquin Phoenix might take the role of Doctor Strange. However, judging by the reaction he gave for not winning the part might be the reason why the rumors started. 

How would Joaquin Phoenix have portrayed Doctor Strange?

According to Cinema Blend, many media outlets started to look at how Doctor Strange would be when the news came out that Phoenix is in the line to play the superhero role. Plus, the fans were going gaga over the news. 

At that Phoenix was going through a career crisis, as his, I’m not here flopped on screen. By 2015 he was trying to reinvent his acting career by doing solid roles in movies like Her and Inherent Vice.

Phoenix was even ready to do the role as e started in an interview – “When I was younger I was probably a bit of a snob about [taking on blockbuster roles]. But they’ve gotten better. I’ve flirted with several of those films, having meetings and getting close, but ultimately it never felt like they’d really be fulfilling. There were too many requirements that went against my instincts for character. I’ve been spoiled. I’ve never had to make those compromises”.

Joaquin Phoenix likely would have made Stephen Strange a stranger

We have already seen how he took the mentally disturbed role to a new level in the film Joker. He has the potential to play complicated roles. 

His willingness to take such a complex role to the next level made him perfect for the doctor’s strange role because strange also has a mental journey in many ways. 

According to Cinema Blend, Phoenix clarified turning down the role: “I’m trying to figure out how to say this most diplomatically, OK … I think everybody was really happy with how things turned out. All parties were satisfied.”
