Registration Process: Application in MIT

Step 1: Create you MyMIT Account on MIT official website

MIT has created an MIT application portal wherein you need to fill in basic details like birth date, high school name, and home address. Also, subscribe to MIT emails notification for timely updates from the university.

Step 2: Complete the Online Application

After creating an account you need to fill in details about biographical information, the application deadline you’ve chosen, and your academic history and test scores. You also need to mention your activities, awards, previous employment experience and also need to write three short essays.

You’ll also need to select one option from early action or regular action. These sections ask for in detailed information like your parents’ jobs and their highest level of education and if you have siblings and their academic background.

You need to pay the $75 MIT application fee.

Step 3: Submit Your Secondary School Report and Standardized Test Scores

You need to provide your official score reports of SAT/ACT to MIT along with an official high school transcript.

Step 4: Your Evaluations from two teachers

You need to submit two letters of recommendation for MIT from one of your math/science teachers and one from a humanities/language teacher. You need to keep these letters ready early in advance as you need to submit it together with the application form on the same day. You also have to mention your recommender’s names and email addresses so the form can be sent to them.

Step 5: Set Up and Complete an Interview

Interviews are not technically mandatory, but chances of selection in MIT are high if you have given an interview. Once you complete and submit your application successfully, an Educational Counselor (EC) will contact you for an interview. There are 5000 alumni of MIT across the world who conducts these interviews.

Before COVID19 interviews used to take place at nearby locations like coffee shops, restaurants, or libraries. But now they take place over Skype or virtually.

Step 6: (Optional) Submit Supplementary Materials

Students with fine art or music portfolio or with research experience can submit supplemental materials as mentioned below. It’s completely optional.

Step 7: Submit Your February Updates and Notes Form

MIT will email information about this form and notes wherein you submit your fall semester grades and classes you’re taking for your spring semester.
