Mercury unlikely to cross 40°C mark in Noida this week: IMD

Noida– Due to the western disturbance, Delhi NCR witnessed cloudy weather along with light rainfall, leaving Noida with gusty and cool winds yesterday. The city will get some relief from the scorching heat in the coming 7 days. Although the maximum temperature will continue to increase from this mid-week, it will unlikely to reach 40 degrees Celsius as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Safdarjung, the city’s base station saw 7.5mm of rainfall at night till 8:30 am yesterday whereas Pusa saw 17 mm till 5:30 pm in the evening. Areas that received light rainfall are Mayur Vihar, Lodhi Road, Palam, Najafgarh, Ridge, Ayanagar and Pitampura. Yesterday’s maximum temperature in the Safdarjung area was 35 degrees i.e. 5 levels below the normal and less as compared to 35.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The minimum temperature recorded was 21.8 degrees Celsius, a five-level low to 23.6 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The humidity levels continued to remain between 96% and 55%.

As per the statement of IMD, the minimum and maximum temperature on Tuesday will remain somewhere between 19 and 34-degree celsius.“The city witnessed rain and thunder on Sunday night and Monday morning. Similar conditions will prevail during evening and night hours on Tuesday and Wednesday as well,” stated by Kuldeep Srivastava, weather scientist, IMD. 

According to the IMD, thunderstorms will likely occur in light to moderate intensity along with gusty winds and rainfall with speed somewhere between 30 and 50 km/h in Noida, Greater Noida, Delhi and Ghaziabad till Wednesday. 

In the meantime, the air quality index (AQI) in Noida, Ghaziabad and Greater Noida will continue to remain in the ‘moderate’ category. AQIs recordings of Noida and Greater Noida will be 137 and 174 respectively.
