Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister of Kerela for seven years in two terms. Once from 2004–2006 and another from 2011–2016. Apart from this, he also served as Ministers in various governments under the leadership of A K Antony and K Karunakaran. Like, he was the Minister of Finance from 2 July 1991 – 22 June 1994, Minister of Home from 28 December 1981-17 March 1982, and also Minister of Labour from 27 April 1977 – 27 October 1978.
In the Kerala Assembly, Chandy represented the Kottayam district’s Puthuppally constituency as the Leader of the Opposition. In his life, he served more than 50 years as the MLA, setting a record for the longest tenure. In 1977, for the first time, Chandy became the minister in K Karunakaran cabinet. He kickstarted his political career in 1970, representing Puthupally.
