Pegasus, the software is adjourning Loksabha’s work for the last many days. Opposition leaders and journalists are questioning the government’s stand in the Pegasus scandal. Opposition leaders have even demanded a separate inquiry commission to enquire about Pegasus.

What is Pegasus?

According to 17 different news organizations investigations, Pegasus was installed into various journalists, activists and politicians phones. Pegasus is a software developed by an Israeli company named NSO. Once this software infiltrates the phone, it starts extracting the data from the user’s phone. It reads texts, messages, contact details, records voice and calls. It can even operate the camera and track the GPS location of the user.

Expert says it’s complicated to find whether Pegasus is installed in the phone or not. Users receive one WhatsApp call, and irrespective of whether they answer or don’t answer the call, software gets installed on the phone.

The NSO claimed that they sell this software only to the government and no one else. However, the Indian government has dismissed all the acquisitions from opposition leaders, journalists about buying this software.

What is opposition stand on Pegasus scandal?

The opposition is currently demanding an inquiry probe to investigate the Pegasus scandal. The demand is to set up a commission chair by the Supreme Court and high court judges. The West Bengal government has already set up a separate enquiry commission headed by a Supreme Court judge. This commission will have independent right to enquire any person they find suspicious and involved in the Pegasus.

It’s mostly to create pressure on a central government to form a separate commission in this case. Opposition’s leaders are halting Loksabha’s work and agitating against the Pegasus scandal. So far, there is no response from the central government on any inquiry in the Pegasus case.
