The August Revolution or August Kranti is another name for the Quit India Movement. Gandhiji inaugurated the Bharat Chhodo Andolan, also known as the Quit India movement, on August 8, 1942, with the warning “do or die.”

The Cripps expedition was unsuccessful in April 1942. The third significant mass fight for liberation by the Indian people began only about four months later. The movement to Quit India is the name of this conflict. The All Indian Congress Committee, headed by Mahatma Gandhi, issued a motion supporting the Quit India Movement on August 8, 1942, during its meeting in Mumbai.

According to this declaration, the quick end of British rule in India was essential for the welfare of that country as well as the triumph of the movement of democracy and freedom for which the members of the United Nations were waging war over Japan, Italy, and fascist Germany. The resolution demanded the expulsion of British troops from India. The Indian citizens endured immense suffering during the war years. The administration made no effort to help the people who were starving.
