Rakul Preet Singh is a well known Indian actress who predominantly works in South Indian films and Bollywood films. She is a well known star in the South India circuit and has many awards to her name including the South Indian International Movie Award and has four nominations for the Filmfare South awards to her name.

Rakul Preet Singh opened her acting career with Kannada film ‘Gilli’  and her prominent and hit films include ‘Loukyam’, ‘Rarandoi Veduka Chudham’ and ‘Theeran Adhigaram Ondru’. Her Bollywood films include ‘Yaariyan’, ‘De De Pyaar De’ both comedies and ‘Doctor G’ which was a dark comedy.

Early Life

Rakul Preet Singh was born on October 10, 1990 in New Delhi to  a Sikh family. Her father Kulwinder Singh was a serving officer in the Indian Army and her mother Rajender Kaur was a housewife. Rakul Preet Singh completed her schooling from the APS in Dhaula Kuan. She later graduated with mathematics from the Jesus and Mary College. She also has a brother, Aman Preet Singh who will be making his Bollywood debut shortly.

Career

Rakul Preet Singh always wanted to become an actress and started her modeling career when she was still in college at the age of 18. She made her acting debut with Kannada film ‘Gilli’ which was a remake of another Tamil film, ‘7G Rainbow Colony’. The film was a big hit and Rakul gained much acclaim for her acting. After completing her degree she participated in the Femina Miss India pageant. Even though the award went to Kanishta Dhankar , Rakul won four titles at the pageant including the Miss Fresh Face, Miss Talented, Miss Beautiful Smile, and  Miss Beautiful Eyes titles.

She returned to Telugu films and appeared in ‘Keratam’ opposite Siddharth Rajkumar. The film was also made in Tamil by the title  ‘Yuvaan’  but with a different cast.

Her first major success in Telugu films was ‘Venkatadri Express’ in 2013. It also earned her first Filmfare  South Best Actress nomination.  She made her Bollywood debut with ‘Yaariyan’ which was Divya Kumar’s directorial debut. Rakul Preet dominates the Telugu film industry and by the middle of 2014 she was working in three films simultaneously which were directed by Sriwass (Loukyam) G. Nageswara Reddy(Current Theega) and Gopichand Malineni. She also bagged her second Filmfare nomination for the best actress South.

By the end of 2014, Rakul became a big star in Telugu film industry with projects with some of the biggest stars of South. It included ‘Kick 2’ opposite Ravi Teja, ‘Bruce Lee’ opposite Ram Charan, ‘Nannaku Prematho’ opposite Jr. Ntr and ‘Srinu’s Sarainodu’ opposite Allu Arjun. She also bagged the Best Actress (Telugu) award at 6th South Indian International Movie Awards. She again teamed with Ram Charan for ‘Dhruva’.

Her stint in Telugu Film continued and in 2016 she starred in ‘Winner’ opposite Sai Dharam Tej for the first time. She appeared in the film ‘Spyder’ opposite Mahesh Babu and the film was bilingual and was directed by AR Murugadoss’. She parted with Naga Chaitanya in ‘Rarandoi Veduka Chudham’ and the film went on to become a major blockbuster.

Rakul Preet also had made brief forays into the Hindi film circuit in 2016 appeared in Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Aiyaary’ starring opposite Sidharth Malhotra. She also appeared opposite Ajay Devgun and Tabu in the Romedy, ‘De De Pyar De’ which was released in 2019. She also appeared in the action film “Marjawan’ opposite Ritesh Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria. She also appeared in ‘Attack’ opposite John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez and the film was a moderate grosser. She paired with Ayushman Khurana in ‘Doctor G’ and her acting was highly appreciated.
