He is married to his girlfriend Ayesha Mukherjee an Australian citizen. Before being married they were dating for a long time but Dhawan delayed the marriage to focus on his career. 

In his career, he has achieved 16 centuries with 24 half-centuries in his first cricket in Delhi. His amazing track record in national-level cricket earned him an India call-up after the removal form of Virender Sehwag.

He had a successful Ranji Trophy campaign in Delhi in the 2007-08 season out of which he discords 54 in the second innings to his 7th Ranji title under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.
