The Mission For Integrated Development Of Horticulture (MIDH): Objectives, Strategies, Planning And More Details

MIDH: The Plan for Inclusive Growth and sustainable development of Horticultural, or MIDH, is a plan to help the Indian horticultural sector develop and grow holistically.

Fruits, vegetables, tubers and root crops, fragrant herbs, blossoms, spices, wood, cocoa, pistachio, and cacao are all covered by this central sector programme. State horticulture missions, the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), the Saffron Mission, and the National Purpose for Sustainable Agriculture all benefit from MIDH’s technical assistance and advice (NMSA).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, oversees MIDH. Technological promotion, investigation, post-harvest administration, dissemination, processing, and marketing are some of the techniques used by the scheme to improve the horticultural segment. The plan emphasises the use of various methods in different groups based on the agro-climatic characteristics of the area.

Goals And Objectives Of MIDH

The main objective of this framework is to boost India’s horticulture growth sector.

• Farmers are grouped into FIGs/FPOs and FPCs under the system to benefit from economies of scale
  Increase horticultural output
  Increase farm earnings
  Increasing food security
• Improve production by using high-quality genetics, soil amendments, and segments and sub to save water.
• Encourage skill improvement.
  Create jobs in horticulture, post-harvest administration, and the cold storage industry for rural youth.
• The initiative also foresees the capacity building of producers in implementing enhanced technology via established structures such as state agriculture Institutes and universities with the Department of Horticulture in the States and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

Activities Performed Under MIDH

The project’s direction towards achieving its stated goals is detailed further below.

• To secure suitable yields for farm owners, adopt an end-to-end complete approach which includes pre-production, production, post-harvest administration, manufacturing, and commercialization.
• Promote R&D innovations for production, production, post-harvest management, and packaging, with a focus on cold storage facilities to extend the volatile shelf life of products.
• Improved post-harvest administration, value-added processes, and infrastructure facilities.
• At the nationwide, geographic, regional, and sub-state levels, implement a coordinated strategy and complementary, synergy, and confluence across R&D, manufacturing, and advertising agencies in the public and commercial sectors.
• To assist and offer sufficient rewards to farmers, encourage Farmer Producer Organizations and their partnerships with Commodity Aggregators and Banking Institutions.
