The charitable arm of information technology company Wipro has committed to provide additional assistance of Rs 1,000 crore in addition to the Rs 1,125 crore initially given to combat the Covid pandemic. The company’s founding chairman Azim Premji said this on Tuesday.

Announcing this in the program organized on the occasion of foundation day of Bombay Chartered Accountants Society, Azim Premji said that additional grant will be given primarily for vaccination of all. When the corona virus started last year, Wipro gave an aid of Rs 1,125 crore to fight the pandemic. This also included converting the company’s office in Pune into a hospital.

Azim Premji said that as the situation has changed along with our work, we have realized that vaccination of all is as important as other initiatives. Therefore, we have added one more important task to the COVID-19 relief strategy and have committed an additional Rs 1,000 crore for this.

Premji described the pandemic as a once-in-a-century event and resolved to fight it with all available resources. He said that in its initial days itself, a plan had been prepared to fight this epidemic on the humanitarian and health aspect.

Azim Premji has committed to donate his entire wealth of over $80 billion to charitable causes. He has laid special emphasis on education. It is understood that he is strongly against sending children to the next classes without examinations and due attention should be paid to the loss of school days.
