Mokshada Ekadashi 2021 Date, Timing, Significance, Importance, Vrat Katha, Vidhi and More

The Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month is known as Mokshada Ekadashi. As per religious beliefs, the Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat has great importance for the salvation to ancestors.

Let us tell you, Geeta Jayanti is also falls on the same day. It is believed that on this day, Lord Krishna gave the knowledge of Gita to Arjuna in Kurukshetra.

As per beliefs, on mokshada ekadashi one must recite the Vrat Katha or Story of this day. By doing this all the sins of the person ends.

Mokshada Ekadashi 2021 Date and Timing

This year (2021) the Mokshada Ekadashi is being celebrated on 14 December.

  • Mokshada Ekadashi Tithi starts: 13 December 2021, 09:32 PM.
  • Mokshada Ekadashi Tithi ends: 14 December 2021, 11:35 PM.

Vrat Katha

Mythological believes says – There was a king named Vaikhanas used to rule in Gokul. One night in his dream, he saw that his father has been suffering the torments of hell after death. Seeing such condition of his father, the king felt very sad and in morning he called the Rajpurohita and told him all the things, and asked for the solution of his father’s salvation.

Rajpurohita suggested him that a saint named “Parvat” can only make the solution of this problem. After Rajpurohita’s suggestion, King reached the ashram of Saint Parvat and asked him for the solution of this problem. Mahatma Parvat told him that his father had committed a sin in his previous life, that’s why he is suffering from hell.

King asked for the salvation of this sin. On Mahatma’s suggestion him the fast and worship Mokshada Ekadashi on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month. The king fasted and worshiped Mokshada Ekadashi. The king’s father got salvation.

Puja or Vrat Vidhi

  • Wake up early in the morning and clean the place of worship.
  • In the temple of the house, bathe the Lord Vishnu’s Idol with Gangajal and offer clothes to him.
  • Offer tilak of Roli and Akshat to the Lord and offer fruits in the form of Bhogas.
  • After this, start fasting by worshiping God according to the rules.
  • After reciting Vishnu Sahasranama, perform the aarti of the Lord with a lamp of ghee.
