Notably, Dharmesh Parmar was also a member of the socially-conscious music Swadeshi group which always took up socially relevant topics and tried to help people connect to nature.

“Gully Boy” is the story of an aspiring street rapper from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai and was aptly portrayed by Ranveer Singh. Siddhant Chaturvedi played his mentor MC Sher in the film. Ranveer Singh was supported by Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, and Vijay Raaz in prominent roles.

‘Naka’ Rapping From The Chawls And Gullies Of Dharavi

The flick is based loosely on the lives of Divine and Naezy who started ‘naka’ rapping from the chawls and gullies of Dharavi. Their songs were centered on politics and poverty making waves at home and abroad. Today both are well known and own a major label contract.

The flick featured a deluge of 54 contributors, and MC TodFod was one of them. Besides Divine and Naezy included Ishq Bector, MC Altaf, Viveick Rajagopalan, Maharya, Rishi Rich, Dub Sharma, Jasleen Royal, Ace, 100 RBH, Noxious D, and Sez. In addition, there were 18-songs on the soundtrack of the film.

“Gully Boy” was a Box Office hit and made Rs 146 crores. The film boldly expresses characters from a marginalized section of the society with a form of music that also suffers the same fate of being marginalized in the conventional world of music.
