Johnny Depp confronted a high standard in his defamation suit versus his ex-wife Amber Heard as a media personality. He was found guiltless by seven jurors who agreed unanimously.
Depp claimed that his ex-wife slandered him in a 2018 magazine op-ed in which she referenced Depp’s abuse allegations. His identity was never spoken of.

Amber was found guilty on all three charges by a Virginia civil jury on Wednesday, concluding that Heard not only uttered false and misleading claims but also did so with “actual malice,” a tougher standard for litigation concerning public personalities. The jury decided that Depp deserved more than $10 million.
However, Depp’s win was not complete. Part of Heard’s lawsuit was also found to be valid by the jury. They dismissed two of Heard’s three accusations but decided that a Depp lawyer had defamed her by accusing her of manhandling their flat to make it appear worse for cops. She was granted $2 million by the jury.

Johnny Depp was given $15 million in restitution by the jury, which the judge lowered to $10.35 million to compliance with California compensatory damages rules. Depp was ordered to pay $2 million in restitution to Heard by the tribunal.
The much-discussed libel case exposes the former couple’s strained relationship. The six-week trial in Fairfax County Circuit Court devolved into a squabble between Depp and Heard over the facts of what happened in their 2016 divorce. Throughout their engagement, Heard and Depp each claimed each other of physical violence.
