Every year on October 14, nations around the world commemorate World Standards Day to raise awareness among policymakers, consumers, and businesses about the value of standardization to the global economy. Every person in the world has valued standards, and we were all brought up with this idea. The celebration of World Standards Day in 2021 will also honor the joint work of thousands of professionals who create voluntary technical arrangements that are disseminated as global standards.
The International Organization for Standardization has announced that “Standards for Sustainable Development Goals- a shared vision for a better future” would be the theme of World Standards Day in 2021.
World Standards Day was first observed in 1970, but the International Organization for Standardization was founded in 1947. In 1970, World Standards Day activities were formally launched by IES President Faruk Sunter. October 14 was chosen to commemorate the first gathering of delegates from 25 countries in London in 1956 who decided to establish an international organization to promote standardization.
The International Electrochemical Commission, among other organizations that produce standards, celebrate World Standards Day to recognize the contributions of thousands of specialists (IEC), the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Institute of Electrics and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), International Ethics Standard Board for Accountants (IESBA), and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to alleviate social inequalities, limit the effect of global warming, and establish a sustainable economy, are quite aspirational, based on the International Standards Organization. The collaboration of numerous partner organizations, and the use of all available tools, particularly accredited certification and global norms, will be necessary to achieve these aims.
