Capcom: Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Length is “Roughly the Same” As The Original

Producer of the Resident Evil 4 Remake Hiroyuki Kobayashi declared in an interview with PC Gamer last Tuesday that perhaps the game’s length will be “about the same” as the classic RE4. Nearly everyone praised Capcom’s 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 (opens in new tab), but the 2020 sequel, Resident Evil 3 (opens in new tab), was not as well received. Many players criticized it for being shorter and more linear than the RE2 Remake, noting out it also even omitted some PS1 game content.

Resident Evil 2 Recreation

With a game as cherished as Resident Evil 2, Capcom was able to faithfully recreate it without making any mistakes; but, with RE3, it appeared that the company squandered a chance to improve and bolster what was always a little underbaked. Resident Evil 4 from 2004 is a lengthy action game by today’s standards. The main campaign is estimated to last 15 and a half hours(opens in a new tab) by HowLongtoBeat, which is nearly twice as long as an RE2 Remake campaign. How can some portions of the game be cut from this version as well to make it more workable?

He explicitly dragged up length as a consideration when he questioned Kobayashi if the assessments and player comments for Capcom’s previous two reboots had influenced any choices for the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

When we began work on RE4, Kobayashi remarked, “we considered what consumers thought was outstanding [in the RE2 and RE3 remakes] as well as what could have been done better.” One illustration is that RE4’s playtime is comparable to that of the original game.

Kobayashi’s comment nevertheless leaves us with many unanswered questions: even though the total length stays about the same, parts of RE4’s settings might undergo considerable modifications. The Mercenaries minigame and the “Separate Ways” option, which allowed you to play as Ada Wong after completing the campaign, might be eliminated in the remake. However, given how similar the game’s intro is to the first RE4, I believe Capcom is presenting this one with a special sense of reverence.
