Apple CEO Tim Cook meets PM Narendra Modi, discusses – ‘Growth via Technology’

Apple CEO Tim Cook, during his visit to India, met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and conveyed his commitment of expanding and investing in the country. Meanwhile, Cook also inaugurated Apple’s first retail store in Mumbai on Tuesday and will be opening another store in the national capital, New Delhi on Thursday.

In a tweet, Tim Cook also shared a picture of himself jostling hands with the prime minister and expressed that Apple shares the pm’s vision of using technology to positively impact India’s future in locations such as education, manufacturing, developers, and the environment.

Indian PM Narendra Modi also twittered that it was an amusing discussion with CEO Tim Cook and conferring a wide range of topics, including the diverse technology-driven changes taking place in India. Cook’s visit underscores Apple’s increasing aspirations for the country, despite holding only a 3% market share. For sometime now, the company has been extending iPhone assembly via contract manufacturers and boosting its exports in the country.

According to data from the India Cellular and Electronics Association, India shipped about $9 billion (roughly ₹738 crore) wealth of smartphones between April 2022 and February of this year, with iPhones accounting for around 50% of that portion.

New Apple Store in Mumbai

Apple’s new retail store in Mumbai, situated in the prestigious Reliance Jio World Drive mall, opened to the masses on Tuesday. The store is huge, estimating 20,800 square feet, which is quite larger than the upcoming Delhi store, as demonstrated by local enrollment records. The mall is also familial to other high-end brands such as Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Swarovski.
