Samajwadi Party facing revolt in the ranks

The Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is facing a full-blown revolt in its ranks as Swami Prasad Maurya, Pallavi Patel, Kamal Kumar Gautam, Brajesh Prajapati, and Salim Shervani have expressed their disillusionment with the party leadership. This revolt has raised questions about the party’s internal dynamics and the future of its alliance.

Last week, Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the post of party general secretary, sparking concerns about the internal dissent within the party. Following his resignation, former leader of opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary wrote a letter to party President Akhilesh Yadav urging him not to accept Maurya’s resignation, further indicating the turmoil within the party.

The revolt continued as Apna Dal (K) leader Pallavi Patel announced that she would not vote for the SP candidates in the Rajya Sabha polls and sympathized with Swami Prasada Maurya. Former minister Kamal Kumar Gautam also resigned from the post of secretary in SP’s state executive, claiming that he felt sidelined within the party.

Former MLA Brajesh Prajapati, who had joined the SP along with Swami Prasad Maurya, expressed his disillusionment with the party leadership and announced his disassociation from all party activities. The biggest blow came when former MP Salim Shervani announced his resignation from the post of national general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, citing neglect of the PDA communities and lack of representation for the Muslim community in the party.

A senior SP leader who spoke to IANS on condition of anonymity highlighted the lack of communication and consultation within the party leadership, which has fueled the dissent. Political analysts believe that after the snapping of SP-RLD alliance, Akhilesh Yadav is no longer in a commanding position in the INDIA bloc and this revolt within his party is further weakening his position.

The internal turmoil within the Samajwadi Party has raised concerns about the party’s future and its alliance dynamics in Uttar Pradesh. The dissatisfaction among the party ranks has put Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership in question and could have implications for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections on February 27.

The revolt within the Samajwadi Party has put the spotlight on the party’s internal dynamics and the challenges faced by its leadership. The coming days will be crucial in determining the impact of this dissent on the party’s future and its alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
