K’taka govt fooling people by making allegations against Centre: Bommai

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai criticized the Karnataka government for not submitting the memorandum in the proper format to seek funds from the Centre for the Upper Bhadra project. He accused the government of blaming the Centre for political gain, while highlighting the national project status and previous BJP government’s approval for the project.

Bommai also pointed out that the money for the project will come from the Centre, but the state government has to take the initiative to obtain it. He criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for being influenced by newspaper editorials praising the budget, referring to it as a sign of helplessness.

He accused the Chief Minister of distorting facts to fit his argument, questioning the demand for Rs 5,495 crore recommended in the interim report of the 15th Finance Commission, which was not included in the final report. He also mentioned the pending Rs 6,000 crore peripheral Ring Road scheme and urged the state government to start the project to release the funds.

Bommai’s remarks highlight the political tension between the state and central governments over funding issues, and the need for proper documentation and action from the state government to secure funds for crucial projects like the Upper Bhadra project.

This criticism from a prominent political figure adds to the ongoing debate over fund allocation and project execution in Karnataka, shedding light on the complexities and challenges faced in securing central funds for state projects. The government’s response to these allegations and the steps it takes to address the issues raised by Bommai will be closely watched in the coming days.
