'DK Shivakumar would become Karnataka CM after 2.5 years'

Bengaluru, Feb 21 (IANS) Congress MP D.K. Suresh has claimed that his brother and deputy to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, D.K. Shivakumar, would become the Chief Minister after two-and-a-half years.

In a recent interview with a leading Kannada media outlet, Suresh stated that “Shivakumar’s dream will be realized” and he will become CM after two-and-a-half years. He also mentioned that the high command had made a decision regarding the matter.

Support for Shivakumar’s potential ascension to the top job has been building within the Congress party. In October 2023, Congress MLA Ravikumar Gowda claimed that “Shivakumar would become Karnataka’s CM after 2.6 years of Siddaramaiah-led government’s tenure” and said there was no doubt about it.

Shivakumar, when questioned about power-sharing, stated that decisions related to Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister posts are made by the high command.

Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah has stated that he will continue as the Chief Minister. Despite this, Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain has maintained that Shivakumar would indeed become the CM.

The issue of power-sharing within the Congress party in Karnataka has been a topic of discussion, with suggestions that the final agreement might include splitting the five-year term between Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah.

The ongoing speculation and comments from various Congress leaders have added an interesting twist to the political landscape in Karnataka.

As the party dynamics continue to evolve, the potential transition from Siddaramaiah to Shivakumar as the Chief Minister of Karnataka remains a topic of interest for political observers and the public alike.
