Later, the request was approved, and February 28 was recognized as National Science Day.
It was first celebrated in 1987.
National Science Day 2024 Theme
This year, i.e., in 2024, the theme will be
‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’.
This means showcasing the accomplishments of Indian scientists with the help of home-grown technologies as well as tackling the challenges and struggles.
Significance
Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman announced to the world his discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ back on 28 February 1928.
He went on to receive the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the scattering of light and the discovery of the effect named after him.
The main purpose behind the day is to encourage the youth as well as raise awareness regarding the importance of science in the world.
Every year, the day is celebrated by science enthusiasts with full dedication.
