Over 10,000 militants in NE surrender as Violence-Free Zone is Established: Amit Shah

New Delhi/Agartala, March 2 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the resolution of problems in the northeastern states, making the region insurgency-free. Over 10,000 militants have surrendered, and various accords have been signed for peace and development.

During the tripartite meeting in Delhi, Shah highlighted the signing of accords with militant outfits like ULFA, Bodo, NLFT, Dimasa, Karbi, Adibasi, and Reang tribals. Inter-state border issues in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya have also been resolved to accelerate development in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India extends to the northeast, ensuring rights for tribal and northeastern people. The recent tripartite agreement aims to empower Tripura’s tribals, constituting a significant portion of the state’s population.

The TMP continues their demonstrations for ‘Greater Tipraland,’ demanding more empowerment for tribals, direct funding for the tribal autonomous body, and modification of land rights. This demand has sparked intense political discussions among various parties in Tripura.

Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, along with senior officials, attended the tripartite meeting to address tribal rights issues. The TMP’s demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’ has been a point of contention between political parties in the region.

Several key leaders, including members of the ruling BJP and opposition parties, participated in the meeting to find a resolution to the ongoing tribal empowerment issues. The tribal vote holds significant weight in the state’s political landscape, impacting alliances and policy decisions.
