Porsche Recalls 8,100 Units of 911 Sportscar in US Over Faulty Windshield

Porsche has recalled 8,100 units of its 911 sportscars in the US due to a faulty windshield fitment issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the affected cars have front and rear windows with insufficient adhesion, which could detach in a crash.

The recall is currently limited to the US market, and the specific trims of the 911 model involved have not been disclosed. The adhesive used to bond the windshields and windows is said to be the problem, with some cars having residue on surfaces during installation, resulting in a weaker bond.

The German automaker discovered the issue in November last year and found that the glass could become detached in certain areas, posing a safety risk in the event of a crash. Despite no reported incidents of glass detachment or accidents, Porsche is advising owners to look out for excessive wind noise or moisture, indicating potential problem areas.

Porsche will notify dealers about the recall on March 13, with customer notifications starting on April 26. Owners can contact customer service or visit the NHTSA recall website to see if their vehicle is affected. The company will inspect and replace the front and rear glass using a new abrasive cleaning process if necessary.
