Puducherry calls for Hartal on Friday to protest against drug menace and crime

Puducherry is set to witness a ‘hartal’ (strike) on Friday in response to the recent sexual assault and murder of a nine-year-old girl, allegedly by drug addicts. Political parties are coming together to protest against the growing drug menace and crime in the city, with accusations of police inaction against the Chief Minister and his party.

The decomposed body of the girl was found inside a drain near her residence in Puducherry on Tuesday, sparking outrage and demands for justice. The strike aims to bring attention to the drug menace in the Union Territory and the corresponding rise in crimes, particularly against children.

Puducherry Home Minister A. Namassivayam has assured that a special police team led by senior officers is conducting a thorough investigation into the case. He has also warned of strong action against any police officer found guilty of negligence in handling the situation. The government is committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victim and her family.

The tragic incident has shaken the community and sparked calls for stricter measures to combat the drug menace and protect the citizens, especially vulnerable individuals like the young girl who fell victim to such a heinous crime. The strike on Friday is expected to send a strong message to authorities about the need for immediate action to address these pressing issues in Puducherry.
