Prakash Javadekar accuses Kerala Government of blaming Centre for its failures

BJP state election in charge Prakash Javadekar criticized the Kerala government for blaming the Centre for its failures, stating that Kerala had already borrowed the permitted amount. Javadekar claimed, “Kerala was allowed to borrow Rs 32,000 crore in 2023-24.”

He further emphasized that the Centre had provided Rs 34,000 crore as grants and devolution in the same fiscal year. Javadekar accused the state government of not acknowledging the Centre’s assistance and resorting to blame game tactics.

Javadekar highlighted that borrowing limits are determined by the Finance Commission’s formula, and the Centre had extended additional borrowing privileges to Kerala due to its financial crisis. He stated, “The PM Modi government went out of the way to help Kerala.”

The Kerala government has filed a case in the Supreme Court accusing the Centre of violating federalism principles and restricting its borrowing capacity. The state government alleges that the Centre’s actions have put Kerala in a difficult financial situation.

In response to the Kerala government’s claims, Prakash Javadekar defended the Centre’s actions and criticized the state government for failing to acknowledge the support provided. The Supreme Court’s decision on the matter is eagerly awaited to resolve the dispute between Kerala and the Centre.
