Maintaining Equality in the Country Requires Spirit of Brotherhood: Chief Justice

Bikaner, March 9 (IANS) The Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, emphasized the importance of maintaining equality and brotherhood in the country while speaking at the programme ‘Hamara Sanvidhan, Hamara Samman’ organized by the Ministry of Law. CJI Chandrachud highlighted the significance of respecting each other to uphold the spirit of the Constitution.

Addressing the event at Maharaja Ganga Singh University, CJI Chandrachud stressed, “According to the spirit of the Constitution, we all should respect each other. How will the country progress if people fight among themselves.” He also praised the framers of the Constitution for prioritizing human dignity and ensuring justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The Chief Justice drew a connection between democracy and the Indian Constitution, stating, “Understanding the Constitution also develops and nurtures the understanding of democracy. There is a need to convey the messages of the Constitution to every person for it to reach every citizen.” He also advocated for rulings to be made in the local language in all courts across the country to ensure accessibility and clarity for the common man.

Furthermore, CJI Chandrachud announced the launch of an e-court facility in Bikaner, enabling lawyers in the city to practice without needing to travel to the Supreme Court in Delhi or the Rajasthan High Court in Jaipur or Jodhpur. He highlighted the significant contribution of Bikaner to the making of the Indian Constitution, with Jaswant Singh from Bikaner being one of the members of the Constituent Assembly and Maharaja Ganga Singh playing a pivotal role as the first Chancellor of the Chamber of Princes.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal shared historical insights, revealing that Maharaja Ganga Singh used to occupy the same seat as the Chief Justice does today, emphasizing the enduring legacy and close connection of Bikaner to the Constitution of India. CJI Chandrachud’s address at the event served as a call to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution for a harmonious and progressive society.
