Meetings with J&K political parties held by ECI team

The Election Commission of India (ECI) team, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, met with various political parties in Srinagar city ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Representatives of Congress, NC, PDP, BJP, CPI M, and J&K Apni Party were present at the discussions.

During the meeting, NC’s Nasir Aslam Wani and PDP’s Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura urged the ECI to conduct assembly elections simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in J&K. The ECI team will now review the ground situation with district development commissioners, SSPs, and Chief Electoral Officer P.K. Pole.

J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and DGP R.R.Swain will also meet the 9-member ECI team before they head to Jammu for similar meetings and reviews. Once back in Delhi, the ECI will announce the Lok Sabha polls in J&K, triggering the enforcement of the model code of conduct.
