PM Modi to launch new credit scheme for empowering the poor to start business ventures

New Delhi, March 13 (IANS) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) national portal on Wednesday, along with sanctioning credit support to one lakh entrepreneurs from disadvantaged sections of society. This initiative aims to uplift the most marginalised groups and prioritize the underprivileged.

The credit support will be extended to eligible individuals nationwide through banks, non-banking finance companies-microfinance institutions (NBFC-MFIs), and other organizations. The Prime Minister will also interact with beneficiaries of government schemes from Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and sanitation workers, followed by addressing a public rally on the occasion.

The PM-SURAJ national portal is a transformative step towards empowering the disadvantaged sections of society, reflecting the Prime Minister’s commitment to giving priority to the underprivileged (‘vanchiton ko variyata’). In addition to launching the portal, Prime Minister Modi will distribute Ayushman health cards and PPE kits to ‘Safai Mitras’ (sewer and septic tank workers) under the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).

The program is expected to witness the participation of about three lakh beneficiaries from various government schemes belonging to disadvantaged groups, joining from over 500 districts across the country. This initiative not only aims to provide credit support but also focuses on safeguarding the health and safety of frontline workers serving in challenging conditions.
