VHP’s efforts to assist refugees in obtaining Indian citizenship following CAA

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced plans to assist refugees residing in various camps in border states to obtain Indian citizenship. Following the recent notification of rules for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the VHP aims to support persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

VHP President Alok Kumar emphasized the importance of reaching out to refugees living in subhuman conditions and ensuring they have access to essential facilities and rights. He highlighted the Indian tradition of providing refuge and dignity to those in need, stating that it is crucial to help refugees integrate into society.

The CAA, passed in December 2019, faced protests and opposition from various political parties. Despite initial challenges, the VHP is committed to assisting refugees in obtaining citizenship and voting rights, as many have only been able to access basic amenities like ration and Aadhaar cards.

Sources reveal that VHP workers have been actively involved in assisting refugees in camps across bordering states for several years. With a focus on communities eligible under the CAA, including Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Christians, and Buddhists, the VHP aims to expedite the process of providing relief and support to refugees.

VHP Spokesperson Vinod Bansal mentioned the presence of multiple refugee camps in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), where VHP workers have been delivering aid for years. The notification of CAA rules is expected to accelerate the assistance provided to refugees in these camps, ensuring they can fully avail of their rights as Indian citizens.
