Mamata breaks ties with brother after he rebels over denied Trinamool ticket from Howrah

In a surprising turn of events, Swapan Banerjee, the younger brother of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has rebelled against the Trinamool Congress after being denied a nomination in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Howrah. The Chief Minister has severed all ties with him following the announcement.

Swapan Banerjee expressed his disappointment over the re-nomination of former Indian football player Prasun Banerjee from the Howrah constituency, stating that he was considering running as an independent candidate despite ruling out joining the BJP. He emphasized that there are better candidates in the district than Prasun Banerjee.

The Chief Minister, in response to her brother’s comments, held a press conference and declared the end of their relationship, stating that she no longer considers him a family member. She emphasized that Prasun Banerjee’s nomination as the party candidate from Howrah was final and that she would not tolerate family dominance within the party.

Mamata Banerjee expressed her discontent with her brother’s actions, stating that she had been unhappy with him for some time. She urged him not to use her name and identified himself as an independent Indian citizen. She also raised concerns about the BJP’s possible involvement in the situation.

The party has been experiencing internal conflicts since the candidate list was announced, but the rift within the Chief Minister’s family has taken many by surprise. The development highlights the growing tensions within the Trinamool Congress ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
