Udhayanidhi Stalin to Take Charge of DMK Election Campaign in Western Tamil Nadu

The ruling DMK party in Tamil Nadu has decided to have Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, manage the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in western Tamil Nadu, which is an AIADMK stronghold. Despite DMK’s recent sweep in the state, AIADMK won convincingly in the western region in the 2021 assembly elections.

The AIADMK-led NDA alliance won 33 out of 50 seats in the western region in the 2021 assembly elections, showcasing their strength at the grassroots level. DMK is strategically assigning Udhayanidhi to focus on this region in order to combat AIADMK’s dominance and secure seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, considered an acceptable face among DMK cadres and youth wing, will lead the party’s grassroots work in western Tamil Nadu. With his understanding of local issues and presence in the region, a direct political battle is expected to unfold between Udhayanidhi and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who hails from the same region. Additionally, DMK’s move to reassign seats to counter BJP’s claims in Coimbatore is seen as a strategic decision to strengthen their position in the upcoming elections.
