Two dead and several injured in Kolkata after an under-construction building collapse

Two persons were killed and several others injured in the collapse of an under-construction building in Garden Reach, Kolkata. The West Bengal Municipal Affairs Minister confirmed seven injuries and the possibility of more trapped individuals. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the scene and announced compensation for the victims’ families.

According to eyewitnesses, the building showed signs of cracks on Sunday before ultimately collapsing. Local residents also raised concerns about illegal constructions in the area. Minister Firhad Hakim mentioned that the building may not have had proper sanction and action will be taken against those responsible. Police and Disaster Management officials evacuated 13 people from the site.

Despite doctors’ advice for complete bed rest, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the collapse site with a bandaged forehead. She assured compensation for the deceased and injured. The incident highlights the dangers of illegal constructions in congested areas. Efforts are being made to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in such areas.
