Delhi Police files charge sheet over 9,000 pages under UAPA: NewsClick

New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) The Special Cell of Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet of over 9,000 pages against NewsClick Founder and Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkayastha under UAPA for allegedly spreading pro-China propaganda. The court has adjourned the case while awaiting further sanctions.

The charge sheet also includes PPK Newsclick Studio Pvt Ltd as an accused. The matter has been scheduled for arguments on April 16, with Prabir Purkayastha’s judicial custody extended. Amit Chakravarty, the HR head of NewsClick, has been granted permission to become an approver in the case.

Sources indicate that Prabir Purkayastha is the primary suspect, accused of accepting foreign funds to destabilize the country. The charge sheet alleges that funds were used to disrupt the 2019 elections by fabricating narratives. The FIR filed last year states that money was transferred from China to fund critical articles against India’s policies.

Allegations suggest that NewsClick received approximately Rs 38 crore in foreign funding, endorsing Chinese government policies. The charges highlight a complex network used to disseminate propaganda against Indian policies. The case is set for further proceedings to determine cognizance of the charge sheet.

The Delhi Police Special Cell’s investigation reveals a deep-rooted conspiracy involving foreign funds and propaganda dissemination by NewsClick. The culprits have been identified, with further legal actions pending as the case unfolds.
