Woman Judge Seeking Euthanasia Permission Receives Death Threat

In Banda, Uttar Pradesh, a female civil judge who previously sought the Chief Justice of India’s permission to end her life due to alleged sexual harassment has now reported receiving a death threat through a registered letter. The police are investigating the matter, with an FIR registered against unknown individuals for threatening the judicial officer.

The Banda Station House Officer, Anupam Dubey, confirmed that the police will examine CCTV footage from the post office to identify the sender of the threatening letter. Additional Superintendent of Police, Laxmi Niwas Mishra, stated that an investigation has been initiated based on the judge’s complaint.

The judge lodged a written complaint on Sunday, stating that she received the threatening letter on March 28 via registered mail at her residence. The letter, purportedly from a person named R.N. Upadhyay, also includes a mobile number on the envelope.

The police have registered a case under Sections 467 (forgery of valuable security or a will) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified individuals. The judge also identified three persons she believes could be behind sending the threatening letter, mentioning that an investigation into her previous sexual harassment complaint is ongoing.

This incident comes after the judge’s appeal to the CJI in December last year, requesting an investigation into her allegations of sexual harassment by a senior judicial officer. The previous complaint had gained attention on social media, accusing a judicial officer of misconduct during her tenure in Barabanki district.
