LMC imposes deadline for pet licensing by April 30

Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has announced a deadline of April 30 for pet owners to obtain licences for their dogs. Failure to do so will result in fines being imposed. Currently, the city has around 5,500 registered dogs, including 400 of 23 banned breeds.

To renew or obtain a new licence, pet owners must pay Rs 1,000 per dog and Rs 500 per cow by April 30. A fine of Rs 500 will be levied between May 1 and May 31 for those who miss the deadline, with an additional Rs 50 per day for further delay, starting from April 1.

Abhinav Verma, the animal welfare officer, stressed the importance of visiting the LMC head office with the pet’s vaccination card issued by a veterinary doctor. The LMC aims to collect Rs one crore in licence fees this year, compared to Rs 50 lakh last year, with random checks planned post-April.

Owners of the banned 23 foreign dog breeds must produce a sterilization certificate along with the vaccination certificate for licence renewal. However, no new licences will be issued for these breeds. The LMC has provided helpline numbers for inquiries.

Verma urged all pet owners to register their pets for licences to avoid confiscation and a fine of Rs 5,000 for unlicensed dogs or cows. Failure to comply with the deadline will result in penalties.
