Several AAP members in Jamnagar, Gujarat resign en masse before LS elections

Over a dozen Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including the party’s city Chief Kar Karmur, Deputy Chief Ashi Sojitra, and Ashish Katariya, have resigned in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The resignations were triggered by unmet promises by the AAP’s central leadership, causing turmoil within the local party unit.

In a letter addressed to the AAP’s state chief, Ishudan Gadhvi, the disgruntled members expressed their dissatisfaction with the party. One of the resigning members stated, “For the last three years, I’ve been part of AAP. During the Vidhan Sabha elections, the party made several commitments but failed to honour them. Despite numerous appeals and discussions, the party did not act on previously agreed matters, leading to my resignation along with 15 other office-bearers.”

The internal discord within the AAP stands in stark contrast to the political stability of Jamnagar, where the BJP holds a strong position. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Poonam Hematbhai Maadam of the BJP emerged victorious with a significant margin of 2,36,804 votes, defeating the Congress candidate Kandoriya Mulubhai Ranmalbhai.

With Poonam Maadam once again fielded as the BJP candidate in the upcoming elections, the political landscape in Jamnagar remains firmly in the grasp of the BJP. The departure of AAP leaders adds a new dimension to the local political dynamics, raising questions about the party’s future prospects in the region.
