Bengal Governor Orders Judicial Probe Into Corruption, Violence in State Universities

Kolkata, April 5 (IANS) – Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has ordered a judicial probe into complaints of corruption and violence in state universities in West Bengal. This decision comes after the Governor recommended the removal of Education Minister Bratya Base for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The Governor’s office received multiple complaints alleging political activities in educational institutions, leading to the decision to launch a probe. A one-member committee comprising a retired judge from the Supreme Court or Calcutta High Court will investigate the allegations.

This move has fueled the ongoing tension between the state secretariat and the Governor’s House, particularly regarding the appointment of interim vice-chancellors at state universities. The recent convention of the Trinamool-affiliated WBCUPA, attended by Education Minister Basu, further ignited the conflict.

The decision to probe corruption and violence in state universities aims to address the concerns raised by various stakeholders. Stay tuned for updates on the judicial probe and its findings.
