Alarming increase in pre-poll seizures in Rajasthan since MCC implementation

Jaipur, April 6 (IANS) The total value of illegal liquor, narcotics, cash, and other materials seized in Rajasthan since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct on March 16 has exceeded Rs 500 crore, as per the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

CEO Praveen Gupta revealed, “Narcotics, liquor, precious metals, cash, freebies, and other items seized by law enforcement agencies following poll panel directives have crossed Rs 510 crore in Rajasthan. This marks a 992% increase compared to the seizures during the 2019 MCC period.”

Reports indicate that the seizures took place within a span of just 20 days after March 16, amounting to Rs 28.78 crore in cash, drugs worth Rs 57.55 crore, liquor valued at Rs 31.27 crore, and precious metals such as gold and silver worth Rs 33.10 crore.

Additionally, materials worth Rs 358.82 crore and freebies exceeding Rs 95 lakh were confiscated during the same period. District-wise data shows that Pali district witnessed the highest seizures at Rs 27.84 crore, followed by Dausa, Udaipur, and Jodhpur.

Cash amounting to over Rs 20 crore was seized from districts including Churu, Jhunjhunu, Bhilwara, Jaipur, and Nagaur since the initiation of the MCC. The crackdown on illegal activities has been intensified to ensure fair and transparent elections in the state.
