Former DGP renowned for his ‘Panchang’ policing joins BJP

Lucknow, April 8 (IANS) Former Uttar Pradesh DGP Vijay Kumar, a 1988-batch IPS officer known for his innovative policing methods based on lunar cycles, joined the BJP on Monday. Kumar had issued a circular last year directing police officials to study crime records during moon phases.

In the circular, Kumar instructed officials to focus on crime records during new moon days and a week after, as most crimes occur during these periods. He emphasized the importance of reviewing incidents of crime monthly and staying vigilant during ‘Amavasya’ days.

According to Kumar, analyzing moon phases can help prevent crimes by understanding when criminals are more likely to strike. He highlighted the significance of remaining alert a week before and after ‘Amavasya’ days to ensure public safety and establish a secure environment in the state.

Describing his approach as ‘Panchang’ policing, Vijay Kumar emphasized the importance of using lunar cycles to enhance policing strategies. His unique concept garnered attention last year and has now led to his joining the BJP after retiring from service in January.

The former DGP’s expertise in utilizing moon phases for crime prevention has added a new dimension to policing strategies in Uttar Pradesh. With his innovative and data-driven approach, Kumar aims to contribute to creating a safer environment for the residents of the state.
