Happy Mahavir Jayanti 2024: Best Wishes, Images, Messages, Quotes, Greetings, Shayari, Sayings, Cliparts and Captions

Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most auspicious festivals in the Jain community. It is the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the last and 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. Usually, the day is observed on the 13 day of the Chaitra month in the Jain calendar i.e. somewhere around April or March in the Gregorian calendar. This year i.e. 2024 it will be celebrated on 21 April.

Lord Mahavir was born as Vardhamana Mahavira in Kundagrama, near Vaishali, in present-day Bihar, India in 599 BCE. At the age of 30, he rejected the worldly life and started doing spiritual pursuits, austerity and deep meditation for the next 12 years.

He attained enlightenment and went on to become a Tirthankara at the age of 42. He helped many to cross the ocean of existence and reach liberation

Mahavir Jayanti holds great significance in Jainism as it is the day when their spiritual leader was born. The one who taught them truth (satya), non-violence (ahimsa), non-possessiveness

(aparigraha), celibacy (brahmacharya) and non-stealing (asteya) towards all living beings.

Most of these philosophies revolve around the concept of karma and how to achieve the path to liberation through simplicity,  righteousness as well as compassion towards every living being.

The day is celebrated in different ways, some like to visit temples and offer their respect while listening to discourses on Lord Mahavir’s teachings and life.

Apart from that, some like to spend more time on charitable efforts like donating food and clothes to those who are in dire need. Giving money to poor communities to practise generosity and compassion.
