Dragon fruit looks like a lotus from outside, hence its name should be Kamalam – Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani

The fruit popularly known as Dragon Fruit will now be known as Kamalam in Gujarat. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani has announced this. He said, “The state government has decided to rename the dragon fruit. The outer form of this fruit comes from the lotus flower, hence the dragon fruit will now be called Kamalam.” He also stated that the name Dragon Fruit is associated with China, so he changed it. Announcing the change of name, Rupani said that this fruit grows on cactus in the country. We did not find its name right, so we changed it.

There is nothing political in this. No one needs to be shocked by the name Kamalam. Let me tell you that the lotus flower is called Kamalam in Sanskrit. The name of the BJP office of Gujarat is also ‘Sri Kamalam’. In India, this fruit is mainly imported from South America.

Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned Gaya Prasad, a farmer who cultivates dragon fruit, in his Mann Ki Baat program a few months ago. Gaya Prasad Singh in village Koyra Khurd of Lambhua is the only farmer in the state who cultivates Chinese fruit dragon fruit in an organic way. It is said that dragon fruit is mainly from Vietnam and 80 percent of its economy is dependent on its cultivation.

After this, UP CM Yogi Adityanath met him to get information related to the cultivation of dragon fruit . Recently, Yogi, while referring to the cultivation of dragon fruit by the farmer, said that in many districts of the state, farmers have grown crops through their hard work, which had the belief that these crops cannot be grown there.
