International Women’s Day: 70% of the 1.3 billion individuals in impoverishment, as reported by the UN, are women. Women head 40% of disadvantaged families. Despite owning fewer than 10% of the world’s land, women produce between 50% and 80% of all food.

It is a day on which women are celebrated for their accomplishments regardless of political, economic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic, or national political boundaries. It is a time to reflect on previous hardships and victories, but more importantly, it is a time to look forward to the chances and unrealized possibilities that await the next generation of women.

History

Theresa Malkiel suggested to the “Socialist Party of America” that should celebrate the first-ever “National Women’s Day” as a demonstration against not being given a seat at the table. In 1910, Copenhagen hosted an international congress on women in the workplace, and more than 15,000 women demonstrated in New York City.

This gathering, which also included Paula Thiede, Kate Duncker, and Clara Zetkin, provided us with an initiation of the idea of a yearly celebration of “Women’s Day.” More than a million individuals from different nations organized the inaugural International Women’s Day on March 19, 1911, and the General Assembly formally accepted it in 1975.
