It's in the nature of Congress, Gandhi family to attack Hinduism whenever they get a chance: BJP

Attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra on Friday said that it is in the nature of the Congress and the Gandhi family to attack Hinduism whenever they get a chance.

Briefing reporters, Sambit Patra said, “It is unfortunate that within 24 hours Hindu religion is attacked thrice by Congress party. First Salman Khurshid, then Alvi Sahab and now their biggest leader Rahul Gandhi himself. He has attacked Hinduism and Hindutva. It has been the character of the Congress and Gandhi family that whenever they get a chance, they attack Hinduism.”

“On December 17, 2010, Rahul Gandhi had said that the danger to the country is from Hindus more than terrorism. P Chidambaram ji used the word saffron terrorism for the first time on August 25, 2010. Rahul Gandhi visits the temple just before the election. They go to ask for votes. They do vote bank politics,” added the BJP leader. He said Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s comparing Hinduism with Boko Haram and ISIS or Shashi Tharoor’s giving the term Hindu Taliban is not a coincidence but an experiment.

“When Salman Khurshid speaks against Hinduism, compares it with Boko Haram and ISIS, when Shashi Tharoor says Hindu Taliban or when it is called saffron terrorism, actually this is not a coincidence but an experiment. And, the biggest leader of this laboratory is Rahul Gandhi. After Rahul Gandhi, people like Shashi Tharoor, Salman Khurshid, Digvijay Singh and Mani Shankar Aiyar give outrageous statements against Hinduism,” stated Sambit Patra. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said Hinduism and Hindutva are two different things.

While addressing the launch of the Congress party’s digital campaign ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ via video conferencing, Rahul Gandhi in his address asked, “What is the difference between Hinduism and Hindutva, can they be the same thing? If they are the same thing, why don’t they have the same name? They’re obviously different things. Is Hinduism about beating a Sikh or a Muslim? Hindutva of course is.” On Wednesday, former union minister Salman Khurshid got embroiled in controversy for “defaming and comparing Hinduism with terrorism” in his recent book “Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times”.

Khurshid’s new book on the Ayodhya verdict was released last week. It explored the Apex Court’s landmark judgement on the Ayodhya dispute. The senior Congress leader Khurshid has compared Hindutva to radical terrorist groups like “ISIS and Boko Haram”. The development comes at a time when seven states in the country namely Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat are slated to go for assembly elections in the year 2022.

Uttarakhand's Uniform Civil Code Bill Decoded

When the framers of the Constitution were drafting it, they left the subject of the Uniform Civil Code or UCC as an aspirational dream that could be fulfilled at a later and more opportune time.

Uttarakhand could become the first state where the Uniform Civil Code will come into force. In 2022, the Uttarakhand State Government started the process and entrusted the job of preparing a draft for the UCC to a team led by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai.

The Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami-led government will place the draft of the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill (UCC) before the state legislative assembly. The bill will be tabled in the forthcoming four-day special assembly session that began on Monday.

The State Cabinet of the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami-led government had already Okayed the final draft of the UCC, and it envisages uniform civil laws for all the communities who reside in the state. If the Bill clears the legislative assembly, it will be sent to the Governor for approval. After the Governor approves the bill, it will then become law. The UCC was a big sticking point in the elections, and the BJP had promised to make it a law in the state.

What is the Uniform Civil Code?

The Uniform Civil Code or the UCC is a set of laws that will govern personal matters like marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance, and succession for all the citizens of the state irrespective of their religious beliefs. Today different laws govern these personal matters for different communities of different religions. The UCC will replace all such diverse laws, and there will be only one uniform civil law.

The draft is composed of 740 pages and has four volumes.

The final draft was prepared after extensive feedback in written, oral, online from public forums and 43 public outreach programs which included more than 60,000 people. The final bill has been described as a joint and collective effort and included opinions from a diverse section of the public. The Bill seeks to abolish polygamy and child marriage, give equal property inheritance rights to girls and boys, and also seeks to remove the distinctions between legitimate and illegitimate children, adopted and biological children.

#ReleaseSalmanAzhari Trends on Twitter As Muslim Journalists Protest Arrest of Islamic Preacher Salman Azhari

A motley crowd of Muslims created a ruckus outside the Police Station after Salman Azhari, the Islamic preacher, was arrested by the police. Some Muslim journalists also defended the Islamic radical preacher who had earlier made genocidal remarks against Hindus and asked for his release.

On January 31, 2024, Mufti Salman Azhari gave a very vitriolic speech at a program in the Narayan Vidya Mandir grounds near the Junagadh court. The event was attended by a large number of Muslims in which the Mufti had given a hate speech that could be described as one inciting hatred against the majority community.

The police soon swung into action and arrested Mufti Salman Azhari for his hate-filled speeches. Hours after his arrest, a group of Muslim journalists came out in support of the radical Islamic preacher and asked for the immediate release of the cleric. They have also started the trending #ReleaseSalmanAzhari #IStandWithSalmanAzhari” on X and other social media sites.

One such journalist, Ashraf Hussain, wrote that the cleric was an Islamic preacher and could not be categorized as a criminal. He went on to say that whatever will happen, will happen, and it is the will of Allah.

Another extremist Islamist preacher, Mohammad Asif Khan, said that Mufti Salman Azhari was innocent and became a victim of the smear campaign by the BJP IT Cell.

He also asked the followers of Mufti Salman Azhari to file a case against the IT cell trolls targeting the cleric.

Another scribe, Ali Sohrab, who had behind him a history of vending fake narratives against the majority, also wrote that he stood in support of the Islamic preacher.

Imam Malik, who claims to be a political analyst, brushed off the genocidal statement made by the cleric and said that Mufti Salman Azhari was arrested by Gujarat Police for a poem that contained the word “Dog” in it.

Political commentator Nargis Bano, in a post on her Twitter handle, asked for the immediate release of Mufti Salman Azhari.

A video that has since become viral can be seen in which Mufti Salman Azhari was saying that the battle of Karbala is still unfinished, and today the dogs are ruling, and tomorrow will be our time. This was followed by the war cry “Labbek Ya Rasulullah,” and the crowd repeated after him.

Police have also registered FIR against the Organizers of the event, Muhammad Yusuf Malek, Azim Habib Odedara, along with Mufti Salman Azhari. The cases have been filed under Sections 153(C), 505(2), 188, and 114 of the IPC. The organizers had also violated the time limit for the event, which went on for much after the time limit had passed. The police have obtained a two-day police remand for Mufti Salman Azhari from the Mumbai Court to investigate the case. The police had applied for a transit remand for two days to take the Islamic cleric to be produced before a court in Junagadh.

The transit remand of Mufti Salman Azhari was opposed by Azhari’s lawyer Arif Siddiqui, who told reporters that the police did not give them the notice which must be given beforehand as per the law.

The Mumbai police have also registered a case against the followers of the cleric who had gathered outside the Ghatkopar police station and also blocked the LBS Road on Sunday night. Incidents of stone-throwing by the cleric’s followers on BEST buses have also been reported.
